Ed Reed Quartet

Vocalist Ed Reed amazed the jazz world when he came out with his highly acclaimed debut CD at age 78. That was five years and a second and third CD ago, and he just keeps getting better. He just won recognition in Down Beat Magazine’s Critics’ Poll as a “Rising Star” Male Vocalist for the fourth time in the last five years. He was recently awarded a Jazz Hero award by the Jazz Journalists’ Association, and was the subject of an hourlong episode of NPR’s Piano Jazz.
Renowned jazz journalist Andrew Gilbert writes:
Given his track record of exponential creative growth over the past four years it might be premature to say that “Born to Be Blue” is Reed’s definitive statement, but his third album possesses all the distilled emotion and narrative coherence of a jazz masterpiece.
This concert features the internationally acclaimed, Portland-based pianist Randy Porter, plus saxophonist Anton Schwartz, both of whom recorded on Ed’s recent CD Born to be Blue. Joining them is beloved bassist Phil Sparks, a pillar of the Seattle jazz scene.
